Våra resor och äventyr. Aluviharaya temple
I december 2024 besökte vi Sri 'lanka för att mina svärföräldrar skulle få träffa vår dotter som när vi reste var lite mer än 8 månader gammal.
Resan gick via Dubai där vi stannade några nätter så vår dotter fick vila lite innan vi reste vidare. DUbai har jag skrivit om i ett tidigare inlägg.
Efter att ha landat i Sri Lanka och sovit en natt på hotell besökte vi min frus föräldrars hem. vi hade sagt att vi skulle komma en vecka senare så de blev ordentligt överraskade när jag klev in i huset. min svärmor sa, ni skulle ju inte komma förrän nästa vecka? så min fru sa, ska vi åka och komma tillbaka då? men det behövde vi inte. de var väldigt glada att se oss och att få träffa vår dotter.
någon vecka senare åkte vi på en resa i Sri Lanka för att träffa släkt och besöka några tempel. Bland annat Aluviharaya templet. Vi hade hyrt en minibuss med chaufför som tog oss runt dit vi ville. Ett bra sätt att resa på eftersom trafiken är rätt rörig i Sri Lanka.
In December 2024, we visited Sri Lanka so that my parents-in-law could meet our daughter, who was just over 8 months old when we traveled.
The trip went via Dubai, where we stayed a few nights so our daughter could rest a bit before we continued. I have written about Dubai in a previous post.
After landing in Sri Lanka and spending a night at a hotel, we visited my wife's parents' home. We had said that we would come a week later, so they were very surprised when I walked into the house. My mother-in-law said, 'You weren't supposed to come until next week?' So my wife asked, 'Should we leave and come back then?' But we didn't need to. They were very happy to see us and to meet our daughter.
A week later, we went on a trip around Sri Lanka to visit relatives and see some temples, including the Aluviharaya Temple. We had rented a minibus with a driver who took us wherever we wanted to go. It was a good way to travel since the traffic in Sri Lanka is quite chaotic.

The first picture shows Sri Lanka's national tree, Ironwood in English, Na Tree in Sinhalese. It stood down by the entrance to the temple area. This temple was quite easy to visit. Not as many stairs to climb as in, for example, Dambulla cave temple.
I Aluviharaya Temple säg det att att det var här man skrev ned Buddhas ord för första gången. Orginaltexten förvaras i templet och är skrivet på palmblad.
At Aluviharaya Temple it is said that this is where Buddha's words were written down for the first time. The original text is kept in the temple and is written on palm leaves.
Det finns flera rikt utsmyckade grottor i området.
There are several richly decorated caves in the area.

Vid ingången till andra grottan finns bilder som beskriver vad som ska hända i deras version av helvetet för de som inte lever som man ska.
At the entrance to the second cave, there are images depicting what is supposed to happen in their version of hell for those who do not live properly.
I tredje grottan var det en uppvisning av hur en gammal kung behandlade sina fiender och andra fångar. det var inte så trevliga straff.
In the third cave, there was a display of how an old king treated his enemies and other prisoners. The punishments were not very pleasant.
Utanför grottorna har man huggit ut små hyllor ur klippan där man har oljelampor att tända för att ära Lord buddha och gudarna.
Outside the caves, small shelves have been carved out of the rock where oil lamps can be lit to honor Lord Buddha and the gods.
Utsikten från högsta punkten i templet var vacker. Trappan upp som var uthuggen ur klippan var lite spännande att gå i. uppe på toppen fanns det en Stupa. en form av helig byggnad där man förvarar reliker. intill Stupan fanns en sten med Buddhas fotspår. en bit bort på sluttningen såg man klostret där munkarna bor och en jättestaty av Buddha. Det fanns altare lite varstans där man lämnar blommor som gåvor åt Buddha och gudarna.
The view from the highest point of the temple was beautiful. The staircase up, which was carved out of the rock, was a bit exciting to climb. At the top, there was a stupa, a type of sacred building where relics are kept. Next to the stupa, there was a stone with Buddha's footprints. A little further down on the hillside, you could see the monastery where the monks live and a giant statue of Buddha. There were altars here and there where people leave flowers as offerings to Buddha and the gods.
Utanför rummet med skrifterna fanns en stor klocka som skänkts av Korea. inne i rummet fanns diverse grejer funna vid upptäckten av templet i början av 1900-talet.
Outside the room with the scriptures, there was a large bell donated by Korea. Inside the room, there were various items found during the discovery of the temple at the beginning of the 20th century.
